Topic: Website Moving to Movable Type
18:04 Sunday, 3 Jul 2005

Soon I will be relaunching my blog and it will be running on Movable Type as I need to have a system that is more configurable and able to accept comments. There will also be a new URL for the blog. I had to do this as I wanted to keep this blog while the new one was being setup. It is not complete but you can see it here http://blog.lonesniper.com.

Topic: General Those that can do
21:35 Thursday, 30 Jun 2005

Those that can’t teach, that’s how the saying goes and in my experience it is completely true. Today I was speaking to the head of media studies, the department that teaches the students about all types of media including video, and I mentioned I was reading a book to learn Adobe Premiere Pro. Their department uses Premiere 6 but we will be upgrading them over the summer. It is not my responsibility to support them with the video editing applications, I am just learning for my own interest. Anyway while explaining to the head of media studies what I was learning I was surprised that everything I was mentioning seemed new to them and they were very interested to learn more. But learn from me and the 4 chapters I had read? Aren’t they supposed to know the simple basics of video production as the head of the department? How can they oversee the teaching of the course if they don’t know about the "rule of threes" or that you should always monitor the audio and be aware of the background when videoing a subject.

Topic: Technology Graphic cards are so important now
20:13 Sunday, 26 Jun 2005

Buying a new graphics card should simple. Just plug it in and away you go. But when ever I try and upgrade a component I am never that lucky. All I wanted was a good low profile graphics card for my new slimline P4 computer. So I bought a Radeon 9200 Low Profile card from eBay and it only has a DVI output when using the low profile backing plate, so then I had to get a DVI to VGA converter which luckily was quick to be delivered and cheap. Problem is now my screen does not seen as crisp and clear as it did with my older card. The only reason I bought the new card was so I could play Star Wars: Republic Commando which I can now play but on a fuzzy screen.

Topic: News Headlines Unmarked Helicopters

Something went down in our town last weekend as for hours helicopters were hoovering in the distance and circling our area. I am not sure what exactly went on, but I took some video of it and thought it would be some good content to play with in Adobe Premiere on my new PC. Premiere is very complicated but I am enjoying being creative.

CAUTION: Turn your speakers down at the start as there is some static for some unknown reason and I can't work out how to get rid of it.
