Those that can’t teach, that’s how the saying goes and in my experience it is completely true. Today I was speaking to the head of media studies, the department that teaches the students about all types of media including video, and I mentioned I was reading a book to learn Adobe Premiere Pro. Their department uses Premiere 6 but we will be upgrading them over the summer. It is not my responsibility to support them with the video editing applications, I am just learning for my own interest. Anyway while explaining to the head of media studies what I was learning I was surprised that everything I was mentioning seemed new to them and they were very interested to learn more. But learn from me and the 4 chapters I had read? Aren’t they supposed to know the simple basics of video production as the head of the department? How can they oversee the teaching of the course if they don’t know about the "rule of threes" or that you should always monitor the audio and be aware of the background when videoing a subject.

You will be pleased to hear my car is working again, but it was not just one problem. My car would not start because someone in the lovely place I live had disconnected the fuel pipe under the car in an attempt to steal my fuel. It was only until the garage collected it and jacked it up that they could see the damage. more...

So my new car did not start this morning, but luckily I still have my old one so used that to get to work. I called the garage and they came round when I returned home. They had a quick look at it, poked around a bit, banged a few bits and decided it was a problem with the fuel pump. My road is very narrow and full of cars so they could not tow it away, so they are returning tomorrow morning when the street is empty. Purchasing a newer car was supposed to give me a reliable means of transport, but at the moment that does not seem to be the case.

Yesterday I collected my lovely shiny 2000 Vauxhall Astra CD Di Estate, with CD player, Air Conditioning, ABS and a diesel engine with some get up and go. The ability to accelerate does make driving a lot easier and probably safer when on the motorway. My old car, lovely as it was, could just not accelerate to save it’s life or mine. Getting used to the new car is going to take some time as at the moment it feels very strange to drive, but I have only done 35 miles in it and did about 18,000 miles in the last one.
